cloverfield!

omg! i saw the movie "Cloverfield" last night and.... okay it scared the CRAP out of me. i felt so awkward afterwards- like this strange sense of anxiety that i wasn't sure of why I had it; like something was always lurking just around the corner of my perception or something. The movie was really good though. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen. The way it was filmed, the connection you have to the characters in the personal sort of way that the movie was filmed- that's what gave it the edge. That's what made it scary. Also, it really didn't have a "proper" end. it just sort of stopped and the credits came on. Creepy as fuck. There has to be a tie-in between this movie and the tv show Lost since both of them are produced/created by JJ Abrams and there's been all this weird viral marketing with Lost and they've been shoving cloverfield clips into the fake oceanic airlines commercials and all that. It probably didn't help my anxiety that I discussed the movie and everything surrounding it with my friend on the phone for like an hour once I got back to my apartment. I didn't go to bed until almost one in the morning just because I was so creeped out that I had to watch a dvd of Whose Line Is It Anyway for like 45 minutes. It also didn't help that I was alone in the apartment and well.... some strange things that cannot be accounted for happen in this apartment. I don't need to say anything else about that, nor do I want to.

So please do yourself a favor and watch Cloverfield. Keep an open mind and don't be a douche about it once you've seen it. Allow yourself to get into it. Don't just sit there passive laughing it off as some dumb movie. It achieved what I hoped it would achieved, and what I think JJ Abrams wanted to do.

january rain

okay forgive me but... I FREAKING LOVE THE MUSIC FROM NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS. I was sitting here singing loudly to "Whats This?" and scaring my roommates. 8D

tim burton wins.

So I'm back in Boston. Got here last Sunday to a new roommate and bitter weather. The next day the nor'easter came in and gave us about a foot of snow and it's partially melted since it was about 40 outside yesterday. wee.

I head back to California in March for my Spring Break (Mar 14-23) and I'm looking forward to it.

I need to see Cloverfield dans le theatre, and I also need to rent A History of Violence (just because I heart Viggo Mortensen). Last night me and my roommates (Kelly, Kerry and Carolyn) went to celebrate Carolyn's 21st birthday. We went to the North End to some Italian restaurant that had bad service (Artu) and then Carolyn wanted to get a "lobster tail" at Mikes Pastry. I had never been to Mikes Pastry before, though having seen many a white box with the name printed on it, I admit I was curious. The lobster tail turned out to be puff pastry with a mixture of ricotta, yellow cream and whipped cream inside it. I need to back there to try some of the tasty looking treats I saw in the glass cases...

I've been thinking a lot about knitting a throw blanket, and having discovered that I can purchase a "suggested" yarn online one skein at a time, I'm definitely going to start it soon. If you're a knitter, please check out the website for Halcyon Yarns. They have all sorts of fun colors, so I purchased a sample card of their Victorian Yarns since colors on websites aren't usually accurate. The good thing about buying the yarn online is that I don't have to buy all the yarn at the same time out of the fear that stores occasionally discontinue what they sell, or run out until god knows when another shipment comes in. (i've experienced this with a green malabrigo yarn scarf i was knitting for myself- i still dont know when i'll be able to finish it).

enough rambling. the shitty internet is preventing me from doing a lot so... yeah.

cheers,
kate

slight rambling

I finally have a proper pair of flat shoes! I figured I needed to make an entry about this because maybe it will take my mind off of how much I wish I had circular needles and a whole lotta yarn to knit an afghan.

i don't have a lot of shoes like people i know. i have two pair of chuck taylor low-top (but i don't wear the green ones anymore cause they don't make that specific color anymore and i dont want to wear 'em out) shoes, two pair of Nike running shoes, a pair of waterproof winter boots, various heels that i never wear, and ballet flats. Now, prior to today, the ballet flats I refer to are real ballet flats. Like, you wear them when you're in ballet (or in the school play for several years). So now I own a really cute pair of green shoes. Cause green's my favorite color and green shoes are even more awesome. Annnd I got a bunch of Gap/Banana Republic giftcards this year for Christmas. weeeee.

SO I bought these!!

<3 them. they win. and they accentuate the awesome tattoo on my left foot.

I went to the Getty Villa today and saw awesome stuff. I ate dessert at Marmalade Cafe in Malibu. I drove in the rain with shitty old windshield wipers that don't really work. I also wandered along Zuma beach before it started pouring. And of course I bought those cute shoes.

Thus it was a productive day. weeeeee.

<3 kate.

ps: i promise i'll post all the photos i haven't been posting because i've been too lazy (and watching too much Iron Chef America, Mythbusters, and Man Vs Wild). You can blame Bear Grylls, Adam & Jamie, and all the dudes on Iron Chef for my laziness. mkay. i'm done.
